Insurance and Medical Evacuation Cost
Medical evacuation alternatively termed as Medevac or Medivac or Medevac, is the transfer of a patient from one medical facility to another facility. It is generally done from Primary care center to a Tertiary care center.
This is done when the patient is critically ill or requires medical care only available at higher Medical center or the patient has met with an accident during his or her travel.
An Emergency Medevac is generally done on a small Private Jet with a fully qualified and experienced Medical team with lifesaving equipments.
How Much Does a Medevac Cost?
The cost of a Medevac is dependent on the seriousness of the patient’s condition and the distance that the patient needs to travel.
Domestic short distance travel can range from $10,000 to $25,000, while international long distance evacuations can cost $50000 or more.
Why is Medical Evacuation Insurance Important?
It is a good idea to know your Health insurance plans before making travel plans, especially if you are traveling on a Domestic or International destination or to a remote location where access to healthcare is limited.
There are health policies which do provide limited medical with high deductibles for treatment in a foreign country. However, many of the policy do not provide coverage for a medevac, even for a life-threatening situation, leaving the patient high and dry to take care of the large expenses of an expensive medevac.
