Aban's family resided in Erbil in Iraq. Aban migrated to Dubai in the early '90s for his education, and further he started his own business in Dubai. He largely traveled to the different Emirates in the UAE for business purpose. While he resided in Dubai and didn't much traveled to Iraq, his parents continued to travel and spend months in Iraq, Erbil. Their emotional bonding with their motherland couldn't resist them from traveling there. Aban's mother Dilshad, off late, had developed knee problem and was unable to walk without support. Aban was not very happy when this time they had decided to fly to Iraq, but he couldn't resist them.
Upon reaching Iraq, Dilshad started getting severe pain in her knees. The pain aggravated to such an extent that she was not able to walk and required emergency medical help. She was rushed to a healthcare facility there. Aban was worried, and he knew that it wouldn't be possible to get proper medical treatment at Iraq and he wanted to get her back in Dubai.
Dubai boasts about its world-class, state of the art healthcare centers. The healthcare facilities of Dubai are
incomparable and par beyond excellence to the facilities in Iraq. There are both public and private healthcare centers run in Dubai. Public hospitals too provide low- cost medical facilities to the people who lack financial assistance. Expats can avail public medical facilities, but they have to apply for the health card from the Department of Health and Medical Services.
How Dilshad's medical case was evaluated by the doctor's?
Aban consulted the best knee surgeon in Dubai and explained the situation of his mother's current health condition. Going through the patient's past medical report's, and her current state, the doctor suggested that a knee replacement surgery may be required. Knee replacement surgery is also known as arthroplasty; whereby the damaged parts of the knee is replaced with artificial parts. Most importantly the need of the hour was to get the patient repatriated from Iraq to Dubai so that her treatment could be initiated immediately. The doctor suggested that the patient to be air transported in care of the medical team, as the patient was suffering from chronic pain. In this case, the best option was to take the help of an air ambulance service which is the best mode and hassle-free method of patient repatriation.
Peculiar Symptoms which requires immediate attention :
One has severe pain and stiffness in the knees which makes it hard to walk, climb stairs, or get out of a chair.
Extensive knee pain while resting, and which disturbs and avoids one from sleeping well.
Knee remains often swollen.
The knee is bowed or has other defects.
One has undergone long term physiotherapy sessions but didn't get relief.
Diagnosis:
Surgery is suggested by a surgeon post going through medical history and after conducting physical examinations that include X-rays and possibly blood tests. The doctor will evaluate these X-rays to figure out what the damage inside the knee looks like. Also, the core strength of the muscles around the knees will be examined by the doctor. Also, patients history about the past medication, any previous surgery has been performed shall be taken down.
Treatment:
Knee replacement surgery has become more advanced. If the patient is in perfect health condition, it can be done as an outpatient surgery too but if the patient is aged and have previous health issues, stay in the hospital is suggested, for at least 1 to 4 days. Before surgery commences, nurses insert an intravenous line (IV) into a vein of the arm/hand to pass on fluids and medicines. One may get general anesthesia to induce deep sleep during the surgery. The doctor may decide to give a spinal/epidural anesthesia, which will numb the waist but keeps the patient awake. Instead, some doctor's also may choose to provide general anesthesia whereby the patient is in a deep sleep.

The team of medical escort helped the patient for bounding on the stretcher and made her comfortable throughout the travel.
