Air Ambulance Flight from Iraq to Dubai

A Patient transferred safely from Iraq Baghdad to Dubai UAE for Knee Replacement Surgery

A massive influx of Iraqi population migrating to UAE, have been recorded from the late 1970s. Due to political instability, people moved their business from Iraq to UAE. It's estimated that about 150000 Iraqi nationals reside in UAE forming one of the largest non-resident population in UAE.
Iraqi people tend to spread out over various emirates of the country, with the most populated regions of high concentration being Abu Dhabi and Dubai. From decades Iraqi residents have migrated and have mainly contributed to the financial and economic development of the Emirates. So, what made such a large sum of people relocating to the Emirates; can be traced back to the geographical, historical and the political condition of Iraq.
Iraq has a diverse geographical condition. Iraq is one of the countries which lies in the eastern part of the Arab world.  The country is bordered to the north by Turkey, to the east by Iran, to the west by Syria and Jordan, and the south by Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. It's spread into five central regions: the desert region which lies in the west of the Euphrates, Upper  Mesopotamia which lies between the rivers Tigris and Euphrates, the northern highlands of Iraq, Lower Mesopotamia, and the alluvial plain extending from around Tikrit to the Persian Gulf. Due to this vast geographical distribution of land, the average temperatures in Iraq has a wide range from higher than 48 degrees in July/August to below freezing in January. A majority of the rainfall occurs from December through April and is more abundant in the mountainous region and may reach 100 centimeters a year in some places. Iraq is prosperous with natural resources which include oil, petroleum products, natural gas, sulfates. The country remains still unexplored and underdeveloped owing to their political conditions. It's proven oil reserves of 112 billion barrels ranks Iraq the second most country in the world behind Saudi Arabia, the United States Department of Energy estimates that up to 90 percent of the country remains unexplored. Political conditions have marred the citizens of the country to a more considerable extent leading to millions of people being forced to explore and migrate to the adjoining lands, particularly to the UAE.

Health care system, education, and jobs are the significant challenges of the country. In 2003, Iraq witnessed its worst crisis, and a large section of the local inhabitants migrated from the state. The conflict of 2003 destroyed an estimated 12% of hospitals and Iraq's two leading public health laboratories. In February 2016 all public hospitals in Iraq began to charge patients for individual services. As per recent estimation, there are around 240 hospitals in Iraq, and the number of doctor's and nurses catering to the patients is very less. Substantial international funding has somewhat raised the condition of the health care system to an extent. Sanitary conditions in hospitals remain unsatisfactory, trained personnel and medicines are mostly short. The main challenges of Iraq's health care system are lack of security, lack of infrastructure, poor economic condition,  difficulty to access the health care facilities, unsuitable hospital conditions, and few trained health care workers. Estimated ratio of the health-care professional for 10000 patients is six doctors and 11 nurses and 15 hospital beds.
UAE is a haven for Iraqi citizens who have fled from the past few decades to the UAE because of unemployment, unsafe living condition, poor education, and healthcare facilities. UAE is the most popular destination for most of the people in Iraq.  Around, 1.5 million Iraqi resides in the UAE with the most popular regions being Dubai and Abu Dhabi whereby students, business people, and working class prefer to live the most.

Aban's family resided in Erbil in Iraq. Aban migrated to Dubai in the early '90s for his education, and further he started his own business in Dubai. He largely traveled to the different Emirates in the UAE for business purpose. While he resided in Dubai and didn't much traveled to Iraq, his parents continued to travel and spend months in Iraq, Erbil. Their emotional bonding with their motherland couldn't resist them from traveling there. Aban's mother Dilshad, off late, had developed knee problem and was unable to walk without support. Aban was not very happy when this time they had decided to fly to Iraq, but he couldn't resist them.

Upon reaching Iraq, Dilshad started getting severe pain in her knees. The pain aggravated to such an extent that she was not able to walk and required emergency medical help. She was rushed to a healthcare facility there. Aban was worried, and he knew that it wouldn't be possible to get proper medical treatment at Iraq and he wanted to get her back in Dubai.
Dubai boasts about its world-class, state of the art healthcare centers. The healthcare facilities of Dubai are
incomparable and par beyond excellence to the facilities in Iraq. There are both public and private healthcare centers run in Dubai. Public hospitals too provide low- cost medical facilities to the people who lack financial assistance. Expats can avail public medical facilities, but they have to apply for the health card from the Department of Health and Medical Services.

How Dilshad's medical case was evaluated by the doctor's?

Aban consulted the best knee surgeon in Dubai and explained the situation of his mother's current health condition. Going through the patient's past medical report's, and her current state, the doctor suggested that a knee replacement surgery may be required. Knee replacement surgery is also known as arthroplasty; whereby the damaged parts of the knee is replaced with artificial parts. Most importantly the need of the hour was to get the patient repatriated from Iraq to Dubai so that her treatment could be initiated immediately. The doctor suggested that the patient to be air transported in care of the medical team, as the patient was suffering from chronic pain. In this case, the best option was to take the help of an air ambulance service which is the best mode and hassle-free method of patient repatriation.

Peculiar Symptoms which requires immediate attention :
One has severe pain and stiffness in the knees which makes it hard to walk, climb stairs, or get out of a chair.
Extensive knee pain while resting, and which disturbs and avoids one from sleeping well.
Knee remains often swollen.
The knee is bowed or has other defects.
One has undergone long term physiotherapy sessions but didn't get relief.

Diagnosis:
Surgery is suggested by a surgeon post going through medical history and after conducting physical examinations that include X-rays and possibly blood tests.  The doctor will evaluate these X-rays to figure out what the damage inside the knee looks like. Also, the core strength of the muscles around the knees will be examined by the doctor. Also, patients history about the past medication, any previous surgery has been performed shall be taken down.

Treatment:
Knee replacement surgery has become more advanced. If the patient is in perfect health condition, it can be done as an outpatient surgery too but if the patient is aged and have previous health issues, stay in the hospital is suggested, for at least 1 to 4 days. Before surgery commences, nurses insert an intravenous line (IV) into a vein of the arm/hand to pass on fluids and medicines. One may get general anesthesia to induce deep sleep during the surgery. The doctor may decide to give a spinal/epidural anesthesia, which will numb the waist but keeps the patient awake. Instead, some doctor's also may choose to provide general anesthesia whereby the patient is in a deep sleep.
